Double Victory For Track

Our guys came in first in the 4x100m team relay and 4x400m team relay track meet last Saturday, 27 Dec.

4x100m and 4x400m girls did an exceptional job as well! Although we were lagging behind by a little in the initial stage, but the team managed to make up for the initial lag and eventually came in top 5! How impressive that was!

We came in seventh in the 4x800m event, which was also the last event of the day.

The team did a marvelous job, especially team captain Anthony, who outran all the other runners to help his team clinch the first place in the events.

Most of the team members also clocked in their personal best and it was the best run ever.

2nd for Tennis

It was an exciting match between Hall 15 and Hall 6 for the tennis championship! The atmosphere was intense with supporters from both halls turning up and filling the stall seats, cheering for their hall players enthusiastically.

The first two sets played were mixed doubles and women doubles. Qingwei and Shuting put up a tough fight but unfortunately lost to Hall 6 with a score of 1-9. Women doubles was played by Clarisse and Winnie. Even though the final score was 3-9, it was indeed a close and exhilarating game in which we had a chance of winning. Next up were men singles played by Ansley and men doubles played by Raymond and Warrick. Our players clinched both sets effortlessly with a superb performance and display of their skills, winning both sets with a score of 9-3. At this point of time, we were on par with Hall 6 with only one last set to go which was the women singles. Even though Wood was inexperienced, she managed to win one game against her opponent and the score for that set was 1-9.

It was certainly a close match with Hall 6. Our team has come a long way and we will no doubt go further. Given more time, our tennis team will definitely make a successful comeback next year and clinch next year’s tennis championship. Till then, keep up the good work!

Track Heats Up

Most of us would still be in bed at 10am on a lazy Sunday morning. However, our Track & Field Team was already at the SRC, all geared up to take on the other halls in the Track & Field heats.

Our hall was down for 4 events, namely the 4x100 m and 4x400m race for both male and female teams. The girls ran hard and their efforts won us a place in the finals for both events. As if that wasn’t enough, our guy’s team came in 3rd among 16 halls for both events, giving us all the more reason to celebrate!

Good job, hall 15! All the runners deserved a pat on their backs! Watch out as our Track & Field team take on the tracks by storm at the finals on 27th January. Be sure to lend them your support!

First Finals for Hall 15

Three cheers for our tennis team! After winning Hall 1 4-1 today, our team will be advancing on to the finals.

The first set was mixed doubles played by Wood and Ansley. They had rather good chemistry and demonstrated great teamwork. The score was 9-4.

Next up was women doubles played by Karine and Shuting. Even though they put up a tough fight, they lost 0-9 to the opponents.

Warrick won the next set with his powerful serves and fast reflexes, beating his opponent hands down with a score of 9-0. Clarisse won her game easily with a score of 9-0 as well.

As for the last set, men doubles, played by Raymond and Qingwei, it was a walk over as the players from Hall 1 did not turn up.

All in all, well done Hall 15! The team will be playing in the finals so do come down to give them your support!

History in the Making

Facing their first real test of the tournament on a lazy Sunday afternoon was not something most people welcomed usually, however that excuse was not for our stalwart softball players today. With heads held high, our softball players managed to amaze by qualifying for the semifinals of the tournament for the first time in hall 15 history.

With a determined team who put their all in the game which was really tight till the finish, our guys started the game by only allowing the opponents hall 5 a single run in the first inning due to the brilliant pitching of Alvin as well as a fluid fielding of our field players. Then when it was our turn to bat, we were faced with an on form pitcher from hall 5 who managed to strike out our first batter Junwen who was followed by our second batter Qing Ru who was unlucky to strike a fly ball which was caught by the opposition fielder straight away. However after the misfortune of the first two, our next batter Hong Wei managed to hit a low ball and made it to first base. This was followed up by a brilliant homerun from Qing Wei who then made the score 2 runs to 1. This was followed up by two more runs from both Jeffery and Ansley. The score at the end of the first inning was 4 – 2 in favour of our hall. After this, the lead stayed in our hands till the end of the match and although Hall 5 gave us a tough fight, we managed to emerge victorious in the end with a score of 6 – 4.

While it was a job well done, our team captain Qing Wei reminded the team not to get complacent as the teams in from now on were going to get a lot harder. however as for now, let us all toast the team for creating history in hall 15 by being the first softball team to reach the final four, and wish them the best of luck in the next match coming sunday. GO HALL 15!!

Netball Failed to Advance to Semis

I could sense the tension in the air as our netball girls were getting ready for the quarterfinals match against Hall 2. On first sight, their players looked intimidating indeed. At least 2 of their players towered over most of our players by almost 2 heads, like twin towers I daresay.

Hall 2 was in good control of the match during the 1st quarter of the game. Our hearts sank whenever their GS got hold of the ball. Sarah, with her formidable height, was still slightly shorter than the opponent, who managed to put the ball into the net effortlessly. The scores stood at 8-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Unwillingly to be defeated, our girls bounced back, fighting on with more zest and energy.

Huifang scored our 1st goal of the day and Sabrina followed suit, getting one more ball into the net shortly after that. Though a score of 14-2 at half-time was hardly advantageous on our side, it was nevertheless good effort put in on our girls’ part.

We saw a dip in both team’s energy level at the second half of the game. More faults were committed, with the empire spewing more technical jargons which, as usual, none of us there could comprehend.

On the blow of the final whistle, Hall 2 won the match with a score of 29-4. Though we were defeated, our girls were nonetheless in high spirits as they had put up a strong fight against their opponents. It was a defeat in glory!

Fret not. I am sure the girls will come back stronger than ever at the IHG next year! Three cheers for our netball team!

The End of the road is only the Beginning of Another

Having close to 3 line-ups of inter-varsity or ex inter-varsity players, it was almost an impossible dream to beat hall 6 in table tennis. But this dream lived in our players’ hearts till the very end of the 5 games. The strategy we developed against hall 6 proved to be quite a heart stopper for our opponents.

First up was Zhao Fang for male singles. He put on a brilliant fight but still gave in to the better opponent. Suan Wood was up next. She was up against hall 6’s best female player. There was only a 50-50 chance of winning, but that did not stop her from making the game hers. She beat her 3-0 and won the applause of everyone watching. The third game ended in a 15-13 win, exhibiting the fighting spirit of hall 15 to its best.

Our doubles lost 0-3 subsequently. Most of us would be disappointed, but those who watched the match knew it was a match we all should be proud of. The pairing of Siong Jer and Chen Hoey for male doubles gave the opponent a hard fight; whilst the pairing of Peifen and Hui Qing for female doubles played defensive, forcing the opponents to make mistakes one after another.

At the end of the day, I must say, we did not let ourselves down. We lost gracefully and kept our heads high as we look forward to IHG’07.
