Badminton Team Lost in their Opening Match

Our team took on Hall 2 in the IH badminton first round and despite putting in a brave effort, we could not live up to the pressure and eventually lost 4-1 overall. Our hall got off to a good start in the men’s singles when Cheng Loo came back from one set down to clinch the match 2-1. However, we could not build on the lead and in the female’s singles, Shu Ting lost 2-0 in straight sets to her opponent to bring the overall score to 1-1. In the men’s doubles, the pairing of Joshua and Jeremy lost 2-0 yet again even though they were so close to taking the second set several times but just could not find a way through their opponent who finally got the match winning point and our hall was now trailing 2-1 overall. Thus, this meant that we had to win the next match in the female’s doubles to stand any chances of winning Hall 2 but the pairing of Joanne and Jin Jing were not able to overcome their opponent and in the end, they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat. Hence, it effectively meant that we had lost to Hall 2 and the last match which was the mixed doubles was redundant. Nevertheless, there was still pride to play for and the team of Karine (female in picture) and Kuan Kee fought hard but eventually lost 2-0 to their more stronger opponents.

Although the team was not as good as their opponents, they were undeterred and determined not to let their opponents get away with the game easily. They put in a great fight till the end and even though they were beaten, there was still something to cheer about from the never say die spirit and not forgetting the supporters who went there to cheer for the team and raised their morale. It was a credible performance by the team and well done to them who hopefully will be going into the next match with greater confident. Keep up the good job and the spirit!
