The Makings of a Champion

The table tennis team started off with a bang on the first playoffs today at the SRC. Despite the wet weather, the team’s spirit was not dampened at all. They beat halls 5 and 8 in just a day to go straight through to the quarter finals on the 10th of January.
The line up against hall 5 proved to be a formidable one. Siong Jer played male singles and managed to beat the opponent in a straight 3-0. Wood play the female singles and won expectedly 3-0 against a relatively inexperienced opponent. Qing Wei and Adrian played male doubles, and were very close to winning the opponent a couple of times, but eventually marginally to a stronger opponent. Chencni and Wanling were up next for female doubles. On-looking supporters of Hall 15 were keen on them winning the match. For their win meant game over for the opponent. Likewise, the opponents were pressurized to win this crucial game. It was a hard fight, with multiple deuces in just a game alone, but the game belonged to us. Chencni and Wanling controlled the game with their calmness to win 3-2. However, we were not given much time to celebrate our victory over hall 5, for we had to play hall 8, which looked much stronger than hall 5.
The players were rested for about 15 minutes before the game started. Siong Jer played male singles again, and won 3-1. His opponent was fierce with his strokes, but eventually, he was tamed by our player. While Siong Jer got the first victory for hall 15 against hall 8, the female doubles played a quiet game on another court. Once again, Chencni and Wanling played an excellent game. They were calmer this time round, and swept a 3-0 victory. Peifen played female singles. Like Wood in the previous game against hall 5, she was expected to win against the relatively inexperienced opponent. She lived up to the expectations with a dashing 3-0 victory. Kenneth and Zhi rong took to the table after the female doubles, and begin a tough battle against the opponents. They were obviously stronger, but our guys did not give them a good time winning either. The opponents were caught surprised many a times though we lost 3-0 for this game.
Overall, we won both hall 5 and 8 with a score of 3-1, and qualify straight for the quarter finals. Way to go guys! You all have the makings of a champion!
